Ask a Geneticist

The thing that I found most interesting was that we don't have 1 long string of DNA. I found this on the second link: Understanding Genetics: Human Health and the Genome. It tells us how we can't have 1 long string of DNA because we wouldn't have genetic diversity. Since we have 23 split chromosomes, there would be about 10 trillion different combinations. I also learned that chimps have 48 chromosomes, and a certain type of fern (Ophioglossum reticulatum) has 1,260!
